Our SENCO is: Mrs N Worrall At Hucklow we aim to enable all children to reach their full potential. This includes all our children with Special Educational Needs. This is often referred to as SEN or SEND (special Educational needs and disabilities). Children with special educational needs have a learning difficulty or a disability which makes it harder for them to learn. Sometimes, because of this, they might need some extra or different help from that given to other children. This might be something like using a piece of equipment, going into a small group for some of their learning or having some extra adult support. If a child has a special educational need, staff in school with talk to you about it and will put in place something that we think will help to overcome whatever it is that is making learning difficult. At Hucklow we use Structured Conversations as a way of talking to parents, identifying need and putting targets and actions in place. This happens two to three times a year. Sometimes, if a child still does not seem to be making enough progress we will ask for some advice from other professionals. This might be an Educational Psychologist, Specialist Support Teacher, Speech Therapist or another health professional. We will always talk to parents before we make a referral. Occasionally children still do not make enough progress or have more complex additional needs. If this is the case it may be necessary to request a Statutory Assessment of their needs by the Local Authority. In some cases a Statement is given and this will describe all of the child’s SEN and the special help he/she should receive. How can parents find out more? If you want to discuss any concerns or think that your child may have special educational needs please speak to your child’s class teacher or contact Mrs Worrall who is our Special Needs Coordinator (SENCo). Contact the SENCo through the office or email firstname.lastname@example.org We also have a coffee morning for parents of children with special educational needs. The school SEN policy outlines out provision in full. Click here
