News from the staff:

The children have very quickly settled into Nursery life and I am impressed with the way the children are learning together and following our nursery rules. We are doing some lovely learning in our outside environment and enjoying the last of the Summer sun.

3-4 year olds:

Literacy:

We will look at a range of fiction books including The Gingerbread man, A Squash and a Squeeze, Elmer And Funny Bones to name a few. We will also look at non-fiction books around Autumn and colours. We will celebrate festivals and events including Bonfire night, Diwali and Christmas. We will be taking part in lots of activities around these books and themes.

Maths:

We will be counting and recognising numbers to 5 then 10. We are looking at shapes and patterns in our environment.

Topic:

We have been learning about The Gingerbread man this week. We have listened to the story, acted out the story, made Gingerbread biscuits, talked about the characters from the story and made lots of play dough biscuits in the Old woman's kitchen in our home corner.

What parents can do to support their child:

*Read to your child every day. Just before bedtime is a lovely time to share a story.

*Give your child opportunities to write lines, circles and zigzags. This is the first step to writing letters.

* Count everyday objects with your child and show your child shapes and numbers in the environment.

*Complete an activity from the homework menu and bring it into nursery.

*Bring photographs of events and special occasions from home so your child can share it with staff and children. They can also put it in the learning journey book.

*Talk to the nursery staff if you need some ideas for your child.
